这首诗在很长一段时间里被认为是泰戈尔的作品，经多方查证是误传。这首诗的第一段的作者是台湾女作家张小娴，2000年版的《荷包里的单人床》中，张小娴还专门就这个文坛公案作了澄清。后来这一段流传到大学校园里，是大学生们一次次接下来的，从而一次次的续作，成就了今天这首完整的诗了。

说法一：作者是泰戈尔，《读者》杂志2003年第14期上曾经刊登过此诗，署名是泰戈尔，出处《飞鸟集》

考证：找遍泰戈尔的所有诗集《飞鸟集》《新月集》《园丁集》《边缘集》《生辰集》《吉檀迦利》……至今并没有发现。



说法二：作者是张小娴，语言风格相似，她的小说《荷包里的单人床》里有一段“世界上最遥远的距离，不是生与死的距离，不是天各一方，而是，我就站在你面前，你却不知道我爱你”。

考证：确有其事！在《荷包里的单人床》的再版序中，张小娴有详细的说明。她本人当时只写了第一段，后面部分是别人续写的。张小娴在序中称，别人都以为我是抄泰戈尔的，只有我和我的出版社知道我没有抄，这真是世界上最遥远的距离。



说法三：集体创作

考证：据说是阳明神农坡医学院的一些同学在BBS上集体创作的，最后在网上流传的。这个说法目前来看比较可靠，可以作为结论。可惜阳明山医学院的BBS无法登录，不能找到更有效的直接证据。



尽管这是一首假托泰戈尔的伪诗，不过学者评价，将这首诗放在任何一本抒情诗集中它都不会逊色。这首诗将暗恋中男女的绝望层层抽剥，直至最不可触摸的隐秘末梢。那种只要一伸手就能拿到的幸福，就因为没伸手而永远地错过。





有时候一首歌诠释着一段未了的情，谱写出一首伤感的诗。
